Aiki Veterans Group

  • About the Group

The Aiki Veterans Group is dedicated to expanding opportunities for veterans to participate in aikido programs, with emphasis on the role that aikido plays as an adjunct therapy for the treatment of combat-related PTSD.

  • Jeff Dowdy, Group Moderator

Jeff Dowdy is the Executive Director of Sarete, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the benefits of aikido to the broader community, especially for veterans, schools, law enforcement, and survivors of trauma.

  • Invitation

Aikido has been shown to provide practitioners with a tool for maintaining and regaining their center in the face of stress and conflict. The Aiki Veterans Group explores best practices and provides support for existing and potential programs.

Aiki Groups provide participants with a way to engage more meaningfully with their colleagues around a particular topic. Each Aiki Group is coordinated by a Moderator, and will set its own agenda based on the desire of its participants: one group might discuss best practices, while another might sponsor an event or even start a new program. AE will provide ongoing support through the AE Website and other means.

Currently, there are four (soon to be five) Aiki Groups. Visit one of the pages below for more information. If you are interested in Moderating a new group, please Contact Us
