Body-Based Conflict Transformation Workshop with Paul Linden, Ph.D.

March 3, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - March 5, 2017 @ 4:00 pm EST

- $400
Body-Based Conflict Transformation

Conflict is commonly approached as mental, emotional, spiritual, political, cultural or historical in nature. However, the body’s responses are crucial and often ignored. When people are threatened or hurt, they naturally react with distress responses such as fear, anger or numbness. This is important because the fight/flight physiology hijacks the rational mind and compassionate heart and moves people toward opposition and violence. What is needed is a way to overcome our distress reflexes. Based on his forty seven years of experience in aikido (a non-violent martial art), Paul Linden has developed a simple, rapid method of replacing distress responses with a mind-body state of awareness, power and love. Participants in this workshop will experience that this state provides an effective foundation for action in areas such as social justice and conflict transformation. This method is simple enough that most people after learning it can share it with others.
PAUL LINDEN is a somatic educator, a martial artist, and an author. He is founder of the Columbus Center for Movement Studies and Aikido of Columbus (Columbus, OH). He is the developer of Being In Movement® mindbody education. He has a B.A. in Philosophy and a Ph.D. in Physical Education, and is an authorized instructor of the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education. He has been practicing and teaching Aikido since 1969, holds a sixth degree black belt in Aikido, and a first degree black belt in Karate. His work involves the application of body and movement awareness education to such topics as stress management, conflict resolution, trauma recovery, and performance improvement. He has taught in Ecuador, Argentina, Germany, France, Belgium, Russia, England, as well as the United States of America. Paul has been a member of the International Facilitator Team for “Male Survivor Weekends of Recovery.” He was a founding member of Aiki Extensions, Inc. and of its Peace Dojos Intl. team.
